Hi everyone,

I have a business flow scenario in Odoo 18, and I need some help to implement it properly.

In my workflow, I first create an Estimation (like a draft) for a manufacturing order. Once the estimation is confirmed, it becomes a Manufacturing Order (MO).

For example, I create an MO to manufacture a table, and its components include items like wooden screws, plywood, etc.

Now, what I want is:

👉 If any of the required raw materials (e.g., plywood or screws) are not available in stock, Odoo should automatically create a Purchase Order (PO) for those items.

Can anyone guide me on:
  • How to configure this kind of flow?
  • Do I need to enable any specific reordering rules or routes (like Buy + MTO)?
  • Is it possible to automate this without creating POs manually every time?

Any help would be highly appreciated 🙏

Thanks in advance!

Yes, that's what Replenish on Order (MTO) is designed to do.

It will automatically create draft Purchase Orders (RFQs) when there is demand for products in specific locations.  You can then review and confirm the POs (note that until you confirm the PO, Odoo will continue to add to it - unless you change the settings).

There will then be a link from the source (normally a Sales Order, but it can also be a Manufacturing Order), which may be helpful.

You are correct to say that you need to add the Buy and MTO routes either to the product(s) or the product categories.

Or you can use Replenishment or Reordering Rules, which also create draft POs to satisfy demand, but these do not have direct links back to the source SO / MO.

I wrote about this here and there is Odoo documentation.
