In our workshop we assign Serial Numbers at the beginning of a Manufacturing Order and that number travels with the MO through our facility and product testing. In Odoo v16, I'm finding that Serial Numbers are not consumed until the MO is Validated. If we Validate early so as to lock that Serial Number into the MO it of course registers the MO as completed. My question - is there a way to lock the Serial Number before validation of the MO?
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- सीआरएम
- e-Commerce
- लेखांकन
- इन्वेंटरी
- PoS
- Project
- MRP

All material movements are posten when manufactuting order in status done. In an eallier version I remember it was possible to post goods movements without that. If you partly confirm an order you get the option to create a backorder. But you cannot post consumption of only components.
Then also there is no check that you over consume a lot number and en up with negative stock figures. So yes, you can always choose to enter a lot number that has already been totally consumed. But if you if stick to what has been allocated with availability check, it should be correct.
@Lars Aam, thank you for the thorough response.

Serial numbers on manufactured products or components? What do you mean by "lock serial numbers"? Post consumption of components before finish the order?
Are using work orders / work centers?
@Lars Aam, good clarifications - on manufactured products and before finishing the MO. I can select a Serial Number for the MO but until it's validated that same Serial Number can be selected by another MO too.
@Lars Aam, we're not utilizing work orders/work centers.
