Hello all,

I'm a beginner in python/odoo development, and I normally prefer Microsoft products, but I've seen on the internet that Ubuntu is the proper environment for odoo development.

For the record, I'm interested in the versions 12 and 13 mostly.

Regards,

Hello Talal,

Installation process is very easy for Windows but for the development purpose I always recommend Ubuntu. Because using Ubuntu you can easily manage/configure your Odoo and for the development Ubuntu is very helpful.

Installation process is also not complex for Ubuntu !!

You can refer to the below document for installation Odoo in Ubuntu

https://www.odoo.com/documentation/13.0/setup/install.html

If you prefer you can go for Windows, but it is not recommended.

If you're focusing on development, you must go for Ubuntu.  In Odoo.SH is even providing the Ubuntu-based terminal. Through Ubuntu, you can take advantage of shell scripting also. Usually, most of the clients are preferring Linux based servers, because it is the fastest one when we compare it with Windows.

Hello,

If you prefer Windows, it's also possible to install Odoo and choose source code https://nightly.odoo.com/13.0/nightly/src/  instead Odoo installer https://nightly.odoo.com/13.0/nightly/exe. With this you can install all Odoo requirements as like in Linux by command line "pip3 install -m requirements.txt" and launch Odoo server by command line "python3 odoo-bin -c odoo-server.conf" or using an IDE like PyCharm or Eclipse.

Best regards!

Actually, I tried Ubuntu, but I never succeeded in installing Odoo.

I struggled a lot in the terminal, and I reset Ubuntu several times, and each time I was getting different errors in the installation process.

So I just quit it and returned to my comfort zone of Windows.

I don't know why it is so complicated to install Odoo in Ubuntu, but I believe this is why I just love Windows!

Thank you all for your cooperation.
