Exporting data to update

Question

When you check the box to update data it gives you the fields that can be updated without having to create a new record and it automatically adds the external ID into the file. When I've finished making updates and go to import the records back in, do I need to include the external ID that I was provided, and if so, would I import it back in as an external ID?

Yes you need to include it.
