We sell a product that is manufactured custom and where the customer enters their size in inches or millimeters within prescribed limits (min-max). here is an example: 23-5/8 or 23.625 or 600mm. How can I create a BOM where one of the variants is open to user input?

With the Product Configurator, you can setup a Product with a Custom attribute (one that is typed in by the Salesperson or the Customer):
Your Salespeople then see:
Your Customers (website) then see:
The MO will be created like this:
You are doing this at the Product level, not at the Bill of Materials level, so the assumption is that you would make adjustments to your Manufacturing Order (not the BoM) based on how the size impacted the components.
Note: You will want to unarchive the Replenish On Order (MTO) Route.

Ray, that sounds really interesting and would be just what I need. However, I have not been able to reproduce your example in V.14. Is it possible to use length dependent attribute values (freely editable) in V.14 as well?
