No one can promise that the SEO will not be impacted when moving platforms hence we cannot prevent it. It is something that comes with moving platforms not just Odoo, it's just the nature of it. This said we can make sure we work on it to minimize this risk.

Below are the 3 major things to focus on in order to mitigate this

1. The content of the website - Products, text, images, the blocks, and any other form of content like blog posts, and other pages make sure to have them in the new website in Odoo as well. the content of the pages must be similar between the old and the new website as it affects the ranking of a page more so than the URL.

2. URL redirects - There might be cases where the client might have links provided on emails, and other websites, and these can be handled by changing the authority on Google from the old page to the new page. For instance, let's say on their previous website the shop page URL is "/products" however in Odoo it's called "/shop" They should now change the authority of the old URL to the new one so that the rank of the page is transferred to the new page.

To set these redirects up on odoo, Activate Developer mode by going into General settings , scrolling all the way tot eh bottom and selecting Activate developer mode.

Go to Websites -> Configuration -> Redirects

Create a new record and set the URL from and URL to, and set the action as move permanently and save the changes. Activate the record and save changes.

Repeat the process for any such links generated in the old website.

3. The SEO of the website - The meta title and meta description of the pages, and keywords can be added to every page making sure to do those to not just have the previous ranking but also to improve upon it.

Go to the website and select the Site -> Optimize SEO

Add Meta title and description here along with keywords for the page. If it is left blank it will follow the format “Name of page | Name of Website” However whatever you type in the title will dictate what will be seen on browsers and search engines.

The Description by default will show the text added into the building blocks on the website if no description is entered.

This has to be repeated for all pages in the website. This can be time consuming to di it one page at a time and hence it can be done via import as well.

By going into Website -> Site -> Pages and selecting the pages you wish to add the meta title and description to and then select action -> export and select the website meta description and website meta title fields

This also has to be done for each and every product if you would like to have better searchability and ranking of the products. To do this via import will be much quicker and can be done at the time of initial imports to make things even easier.

Go to Products -> Select the list view and select the products which you would like to update the meta title and description for. Select -> Action -> Export

Select Website meta title and Website meta description fields.

Make sure to add the external ID as well if you are looking to update the product record with the Website Meta information.

Make sure to monitor the pages. Once the change is done, it is expected to see a decrease in traffic once the change is done. However, it should again go up in a few days.
