In previous versions of Odoo, it was possible to name the tables. In Odoo 18, this is no longer possible: tables can only be numbered.

This is very unfortunate because assigning permanent names to tables in a bar/restaurant environment was very easy and allowed us to easily and simply enter orders by names.

Am I overlooking something here or has this particular feature disappeared? When will this feature come back. This is a no-go for applications small bars/restaurants, including in sports clubs.

We are talking using the POS in the bar of a sportsclub with some 60 members. The member names does not change an are limited. In Odoo 17, you can select a member's name (= table number) with one push of the button and have an overview of outstanding payments in one blink of an eye. In Odoo 18 it takes a painstaking selection process.

Very sorry but i (and my clients) do not agree, besides what's wrong with adding an optional text label to a table. It has been done in previous Odoo versions and is commonly possible in most kinds of POS software.

I agree with Didier that removing alphanumeric table names is a mistake. It is common for restaurantes to use non númeric table referencias, e.j. A5 and B13, where the letter indicantes the row a table is in. Once you go over about 20 tables it is impossible for a waiter to memorize a tables location with only numbers.  In our particular case we have "Tables" called "UberEats", "DoorDash", "DiDi", "To go", etc. Replacing these names with numbers will be a major challenge for our staff.

It is shame that the great improvements made to the POS in version 18 are being overshadowed by something as simple as table names. It would be great if Odoo talked to more users before making such a significant functionality changes.

Its realy bullshit to make plans with names, instead use the add picture on the tables and put a jpg with a name on it. Or if your client accept make a picture of him/her. Edit that also not work

But this is what i think: You cant remove a option and think everybody is happy. Deleting this feature has cost me money and time and fucked up my POS for a week. Errors and couldnd login

I don't agree with you!

It's obvious that you're not in the business.

You only think about software, not business.

You're right INDEX, we do it for fun.
Short-sighted is not the same as myopic.
But in the meantime, we have a solution through Odoo Partner ‘WAEZ Services’. Unfortunately, that increases our monthly cost because we had to migrate to self-hosting (or Odoo.sh)

Anyone find a way to achieve this yet?

Even with numbers only you can achieve the same.

For instance, you can decide that the first number represents the row and the second number the column. This way you can define all positions with numbers starting at 11 (first row, first column), 21 (second row , first column).

Further, as you know, you can have customers in the POS, so you do not need to misuse the tables to represent customers. Just set the customer the first time you enter product for the table and it will stay during the full service until it is paid.

Hope this helps you.

Dat is een goede tip Rohan. Maar met 60+ leden is het eindeloos scrollen op het scherm. Voorheen hadden we alle leden op slechts 2 tabbladen. Alles in één oogopslag...  simpel toch.

Didier: A possible solution for you would be to create a table map for each of your members (with one table in each map). That way the POS displays buttons with all the map names (member names).

This feature has been removed.

It is faster to select and switch between numbered tables. Numbers are also simpler, more scalable, more consistent and more efficient that having to remember names.
