Odoo 17 Enterprise on odoo.sh

My client has quite a few products that he wants to be able to sell or set up on recurring billing. When he attempted to make them subscription products, he cannot add them to a sales order without  choosing a subscription setup. How can he make this work without creating two products?

We have this very same question/issue. Did you figure this out or receive an answer elsewhere to this question?

I don't remember exactly how we resolved this, but I just searched the phrase "odoo How to setup product that can be either a subscription or sold directly" and the Google AI response indicates an approach where a product can be either a subscription or a one time sale. Here it

To set up an Odoo product that can be sold as both a one-time purchase and a subscription, you need to configure it in both the Sales and Subscriptions modules. In the product form, ensure the "Can be sold" option is checked, the product type is set to "Service" or "Goods" depending on the product, and the "Recurring" option is enabled. Additionally, in the Sales module, you'll need to configure the product to be sold directly and in the Subscriptions module, you'll need to create a subscription plan.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Product Configuration (Sales & Subscriptions):

Product Type: Choose "Service" if it's a non-tangible product like a subscription to a service. If it's a physical product, select "Goods".

Can be sold: Enable this option if you want to sell the product as a one-time purchase.

Recurring: Enable this option to allow the product to be sold as a subscription.

Invoicing Policy: If it's a physical product, make sure the invoicing policy is set to "Ordered quantities" in the Sales application to avoid issues with invoice creation.

2. Subscription Configuration (Subscriptions):

Subscription Products:

.

In the Sales module, under the Subscriptions section, ensure the "Subscription products" option is activated.

Subscription Templates:

.

Create or select appropriate subscription templates to define the recurring billing cycle (e.g., monthly, yearly) and other details.

Pricing:

.

Configure the recurring price for the subscription within the subscription plan or on the pricelist in the Sales application.

3. Selling the Product:

Sales Order:

.

When creating a sales order, you can add the product as a one-time purchase or include it in a subscription by selecting the appropriate subscription plan.

Website:

.

If you have a website, the product will be available for purchase both as a one-time item and as a subscription, based on the configurations in Odoo.

Key Considerations:

Physical Products:

.

For physical products, ensure the invoicing policy is set to "Ordered quantities" to avoid issues with invoice generation when using subscriptions.

Inventory:

.

If you are selling physical products that are also part of subscriptions, consider using a replenishment/reordering rule if you allow sales even when inventory is zero.

Subscription Plans:

.

Subscription plans are closely integrated with quotation templates, allowing for easy setup and management.

Customer Portal:

.

Customers can manage their subscriptions and view their purchase history through the customer portal.
