We have activated Make To Order.  But one problem came up!  For some products we need alternative BOM.  When you manually create manufacturing orders, it is easy to change.  But with MTO the order go directly into Confirm status, and change of BOM is not possible.

I have tried several "tricks" to change, but I am stuck. Cannot find a solution.  Among the tricks I made, was a server action to set order back to Draft.  But it does not help, as there are stock moves created so that blocks removal of components.

Also the Unlock / Lock function is not available. Although I do not know if it would help.

Any Ideas out there?

Maybe this post helps.. the suggested trick to create a blank BOM and move the sequence to top. Though not sure if you would be able to achieve this in V14

Thanks I will test empty BOM.
I found a work around: Action reset to draft on Production order. Then find the the stock moves, and there also action created: Reset to draft. And then delete the stock moves. It is the stock moves that block for changes .
Then you can change the manufacturing order. Either select another BOM or change components.

In status Not Planned, it is possible to add components and delete existing. But you also need to delete the stock moves for the finish product to be able to change the components. (Might be related to Lot tracing?)

If it happens rarely, my work around might be OK with the actions created. If we need a regular routine, the blank BOM might be the solution.

Here is another post that details how to prevent MO from getting to auto confirm state, essentially by adding an automated action to prevent confirmation and a subsequent server action triggered manually.

You have correctly noted in your message the chosen method has to be in relevance to business circumstances. In this method, 100% of the MO's would have to be manually confirmed as compared to your method or empty BOM which can be applied to specific MO or a product
