The standard version of the “dropship” feature in Odoo only allows you to confirm the transfer of your goods from the supplier to your client.

But when the goods delivery takes a few days/weeks/months to transit from the supplier to the customer, you might want to keep track of the freight.

The goal of this entry: to keep track of the goods in your inventory report during the delivery time from the supplier to the final customer.

How: Creating a new route for these products. We will not use Odoo’s standard “dropship” feature.

First, we will create a dedicated stock location to differentiate this “stock” from our actual stock.

We can set it as a Transit location with a Physical location as parent. I did so the product still appears in the inventory valuation report, but doesn’t in our warehouse.

Second, we have to create specific operation types. One for “the reception” of products in our stock, the other for “delivering” these goods to the client.

Third, it’s now time to create the route.

Here, we ask Odoo to trigger another rule when we have to deliver the article.

When a delivery is required for a product that has no stock, we buy the product and we receive it in our location “Parent Locations/Dropship Goods”.

Now, it’s time to configure the product correctly.

Of course, the article should be storable (otherwise it has no sense of doing this).

We should also activate the route somewhere to make it work. In this example, I’ll activate it on the product (but it could be activated somewhere else), and I’ve kept only this route activated.

And since the sale of the product should automatically create a purchase order, we have to set a vendor in the purchase tab of the product.

Now, when we confirm any sale order for this article, an automatic purchase order is created and linked to it.

We can see on the reception note that the reception location is the “Parent Locations/Dropship Goods”

This location will also be used as the source location for our delivery.

And you can see on this example that I received 1001 goods in the Dropship Goods location, so they appear in the valuation, but not in my warehouse.
