Hello Emily,
The best practice you will need is to know how to apply patience and soothing thoughts. All kidding aside, if you have ever designed websites before, the Odoo Builder is a bit outdated which will really try your patience as stuff that you assume would be doable easily are not really available in the builder yet.
BUT, once you understand the limits of the design system and how to use it, you will be able to create really good and professional websites easily.
A few tips from building my website:
1- Some elements will not look as good on desktop as they do on mobile (and vice versa). In that case, create two of the same element, set up one to be only visible on desktop and one to be only visible on mobile and tweak them accordingly. A good example of this would be a parallax cover where you would be able to see the full image on desktop, but will be limited to a narrow one on mobile. From experience, trying to have one parallax look centered or focused where you want on both will be hard and will tend to not really work.
2- Do not be limited by what the builder shows you as preview when you add a block to the page; this is something I am ashamed to admit took me a while to fully grasp. For example, when adding a Banner Block, it will show you a huge rectangle with a colored background, a button and 2 or 3 images on the left. But maybe what you want is only a text of the right and 2 images on the left with no background. You can easily remove the background, delete the button and remove or even add more images and move their position around.
Regarding 3rd party integrations, i am using a whatsapp widget from commonninja. I know Odoo offers a Discussion widget, but where I operate, If there is no whatsapp widget, people will not talk to you.
I think I posted a boring topic. And it reminds me of the idiom "bored out of brains." Source: https://www.theidioms.com/
