I've been speaking with several Odoo Partners in implementing Odoo for a golf equipment distribution business.


Seems there's a split opinion on whether its better to use the Inventory or Manufacturing Modules to create the products.


A little background:


Golf Club A is made of 7 attributes.

For a stock product, attributes 1-3 are variable while 4-7 are nonvariable (Standard).


To further elaborate:

Attributes 1: RH/ LH

Attributes 2: 9 deg/ 10.5 deg/ 12 deg

Attribute 3: Shaft R/ Shaft S/ Shaft SR (There are about 500 options for Custom/Made to Order)


For a product that is custom/made to order:

Attribute 3: 500 options (The 3 options above are actually 3 of these 500)

Attribute 4: 5 options

Attribute 5: 8 options

Attribute 6: 100 options

Attribute 7: 8 options


As Odoo Partners have been telling me different ways to make it work in Odoo, I'd like to check to see if the community has any ideas.

  • Are you trying to track the manufacturing steps? No I'm not, simply want to a find a solution to be able to provide the custom options for purchase, and also to tie the data entry against orders we make at the vendor.
  • Are you trying to give the customer the ability to make selections while purchasing? Customers will only be able to select stock products for purchase on the front-end (Website). All custom options will be handled from the backend, quote -> confirm sales order -> create purchase order (made-to-order)
  • Do you build ANY pre-built clubs that people can buy outright, or are they all custom builds? All clubs, whether stock or custom, are prebuilt. Difference is the composition of the club. Stock clubs have a pre-set selection.

  • Are you trying to track the manufacturing steps?
  • Are you trying to give the customer the ability to make selections while purchasing?
  • Do you build ANY pre-built clubs that people can buy outright, or are they all custom builds?
