I would like to organize our 'Project' app to the following structure: Project/Sub-Project/Tasks/Sub-Tasks and have it reflected this way on the Gantt chart. It is typical for us that an overall project is subdivided into other projects, principally by department. If we have a new project for an R&D unit, for instance, there will be sub-projects for Engineering, Production, Operation, Sales, Quality, etc. These sub-projects will then be populated with tasks and subtasks.

Simply put, how do I nest projects?

Thanks!

I just need one more layer of abstraction. Perhaps it doesn't even require nesting. On the project page, if we were simply able to group projects under banners; Production, Sales and Marketing, Operations. That alone would clean up a lot of the noise that exists now with all projects in the same bucket. They don't necessarily need a software connection to these banners/headers. I just need to be able to drag and drop them. Now, if they had one software association I would have it be that they remain grouped under these same banners/headers when viewed in the Gantt chart. That one thing would make organization of Projects so much more helpful and meaningful. Its just a rat's nest right now.

With project stages enables this could be achieved.

Other possibilities could be to use project tags or project status

Hi,

Odoo supports subtasks, but it does not support sub-projects by default. To achieve this functionality, customization is required.

Refer to the following to achieve the sub-tasks

Hope it helps

Odoo's Project module does not natively support hierarchical nesting of projects (i.e., sub-projects within main projects). However, you can achieve a structured breakdown of work using tasks and sub-tasks within a project. This approach allows for detailed organization and management of complex projects without the need for nested project structures.

Implementing Tasks and Sub-Tasks:

  1. Enable Sub-Tasks Feature:
    • Navigate to the Projects module.
    • Go to Configuration > Settings.
    • Under the Task Management section, enable the Sub-tasks option.
    • Click Save to apply the changes.
  2. Create a Main Project:
    • From the Projects dashboard, click Create.
    • Enter the project name (e.g., "R&D Project") and configure other settings as needed.
    • Click Create Project to finalize.
  3. Add Tasks Representing Sub-Projects:
    • Within your main project, create tasks corresponding to each sub-project (e.g., "Engineering," "Production," "Operations," etc.).
    • Assign these tasks to the respective departments or team leads.
  4. Break Down Tasks into Sub-Tasks:
    • Open a task that represents a sub-project.
    • Navigate to the Sub-tasks tab and click Add a line to create sub-tasks.
    • Define sub-tasks to represent specific activities or deliverables within the sub-project.
    • Assign each sub-task to appropriate team members and set deadlines as required.

By structuring your projects in this manner, you can effectively manage complex initiatives with multiple components, ensuring clear assignment of responsibilities and streamlined tracking of progress.
