I have had a look and I can’t see anything that helps. I have a vehicle that has a number of options. All relating to different parts of the vehicle. What is the best way to manage this. The most basic way is to have a standard vehicle and to then have a number of BOMs for the options. From what I understand is that you can’t have a negative quantity in a BOM to in effect put things back into stock If it’s not needed.

I see there is a variants field the only problem I can see with that is that their could be 100s if not 1000s of them and not every combination is possible.

Any help welcomed.

Hi Lars

Thanks for getting back to me with this detailed answer. Just two follow up questions. Is there a way to set default options so that they don’t need to be selected or show on the sales order or invoice? You don’t really want these documents to be pages long just to say you have got a standard vehicle.

Secondly, is there a way of restricting the options you can have with a dependancy on a previous option. Say if you pick the climate pack that it will select climate control, heated seats, etc but you aren’t able to or deselected the sunroof option as a result. I’m sure you have seen this sort of thing when buying a car.

Variants should be your best option for this in Odoo.   I will just give you small example. First in the settings in the inventory app, activate Variants. In the settings for sales, activate Variant grid entry.  The setting in sales, give you a pop up, where you select all the different options.

On the product template you set the attributes something like this:

In the Bill of material, you set it up like this:

When we get a sales order for a white product with small rims, the result is a manufacturing order with just that:

This way you can manage manufacturing of any combination of all the options you might have for the vehicle.

In this setting I would recommend to use Make To Order process.

Unused material in manufacturing: In the BOM you have a field for the components "Manual consumptions".  Then you will be forced to confirm consumption. In the tab Miscellaneous set Flexible consumption to Allowed.   This makes it possible to confirm that the component has not been used.
