A client of mine has an older android device with barcode scanner. It is a MunByn device and it appears that the most current version of Android they support on this device is 7.0.

When I install the Odoo app and login to a known-working DB, all I get is a blank white screen. No main menu, no apps, no nothing.

Is this device just too old? Or any other tips?

You could try updating the android version of the machine, the update process is another complicated topic but it works, have the android device get to around Android version 8.
