I am trying to get a physical IoT box but I have to wait too long so I am thinking about using the Virtual IoT on my database. I am not sure if they have the same functionalities.
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory
- PoS
- Project
- MRP

The Physical IoT box is a physical device. You can acquire them with Odoo or buy one by yourself. The model we recommend is the Raspberry pi 4 model B (2GB). If this one is not available, is it also possible to work with 3B+, 4GB or 8GB models.
The Virtual IoT box: This is a program that you download on your computer. The requirements to use this program are to have:
- Windows operating system
- Database in V16or a later version
Is working the same way as the physical IoT box, with the same devices (scales, printers, etc.) The only difference is that this is a software that you need to download.
Note: The payment terminals supported are Six and Worldline. You can check our documentation for more details.
If you are planning to use the Virtual IoT you can check this forum entry to know how to download and connect it to your computer!
So, if I download the virtual iOT box, do I still pay the $20 per month iOT subscription? Also, can any thermal printer now be used with POS and this virtual iOT box? Thank you.
Hello!
Please read my comment on the other question above to know a bit more about the subscription part. For the thermal printers, it will be the same as the physical IoT box!
Hi !
Would also like to know the subscription differences between iotbox and virtual iotbox...
I've heard that virtual IOT is free ?

Hello Lemarinel Ludovic,
The Virtual IoT can work on a computer or as a network. If you just download the Virtual IoT on different computers indeed the subscription will be free. If you use it as a network for other devices, then, some fees will be applied to the subscription!
Hi.
What specifically means can work "as a network". Does this means using eg. a network printer or users from other computers using this IoT? Can the Linux version of ODOO be made to be running as a Virtual IoT?
@IsabelEscrivá can we use the virtual IoT box with our SaaS version 16?
